We provide running physio services for all levels of runners. Whether you are a casual runner, or are training for a marathon, we understand what it takes to deliver running injury physio treatment and exercise prescription.

Running is an amazing exercise to increase cardiovascular fitness, improve metabolic health, and manage stress. There is nothing quite like the runner’s high to get you through your work week and improve mental health.

However, the repetitive nature of running and the high loads produced can put a lot of strain on tendons and bone, and the volume of training required to achieve excellence can leave people susceptible to injury.

To put things into perspective, different muscles can experience a stunning amount of force when running:

  1. Hamstrings up to 7 times your bodyweight

  2. Soleus (lower calf muscle) up to 8 times your bodyweight

  3. Quadriceps up to 6 times your body weight

Look at those calves go!

Additionally common correctable running errors can also increase injury risk. Unfortunately, people often forgo having their running technique assessed which further compounds it.

One component on its own is usually not enough to lead to injury. The typical case is a coming together of a sudden increase in training volume, weakness, technique error, poor nutrition and recovery. And we know the last thing you want is to have to hang up the shoes due to running injury.

Fortunately, we have years of experience helping active people as a running injury physio. Our method involves finding out what your goals are, then we assess lower limb mechanics, running technique, and strength. Once we have collected the necessary data we then treat and prescribe exercises as appropriate. Many of our patients after working with us have also experienced an improvement in their times due to the implementation of our strategies (a welcome added bonus!)

Most importantly, where ever possible we work running into your treatment plan to maintain your cardiovascular fitness, bone density and tendon integrity. If it makes no sense to do so as part of your treatment, we will not have unnecessary large pauses in your running training.
